facing job rejections

in this era of people getting success at an early age is quite normal but nobody talks about the rejections one has faced. nobody’s life is easier. if you think that the one who got an offer from Google has figured it out in life, then you’re just more than wrong. but that shouldn’t correspond to you not hustling towards betterment. Everyone might be struggling but it’s all about the level of struggle. I might be struggling because I didn’t get the deal flow in that emerging startup as an angel investor or the other way around is that I didn’t get a job at the same startup. same context, different problems.

now when there are so many types of rejections out there. let it be you in your personal life or just seeking validation from a random stranger on the internet. bt, for the masses today, let’s cite the case of job rejection and how to deal with it.

before we start, why do you think that I’m eligible for this one? I’ve been rejected by companies that I aspired to and have rejected offers that paid me 3.2X of my salary as well. Been there on both sides of the table, I think it’s time to let a few things out.

P.S. I’ve been rejected in my personal life as well but let’s talk about it some other day.

first of all, there’s a concept out there which people aim towards due to peer pressure called ‘dream job’. to top it off, never ever fall into this trap of a dream job as somebody smarter than me already cited that if you see dreams, make sure it’s not of being an employee. I know you might argue that “but I need to get some experience first”. well, ok boomer, let’s get into it.

having a niche set of companies you want to work for is good but should not be so mainstream that you get into the trap of perks and social validation. these days, tech is evolving at such a rate that if you join a company that’s really building the future (AR/VR/XR/or any web3 based company), the perks & salary are not fancy but the returns are much higher.

‘ok macha, this sounds good for this blog but I need to work at a FAANG company to get married nicely’. well, my condolences da.

if you still have a dream company and got rejected by it already, don’t be shattered or feel that you’re not qualified for it. It’s just that you’re not ready for it. might sound fancy but it’s for your own good maybe as if you were placed at your dream company then the aura of working towards your goal might fade away but now you are motivated enough to work harder towards it right? no, bullshit.

I’ve faced rejections, someone working at Google has faced tens if not hundreds of them. Stop comparing yourself with others of your own age. Life is a race but it’s a solo one so don’t rush guys.

I need to stop before I become Sandeep Maheshwari 2.0.

Good luck with your job search, it might not be the one you want but surely the one you need :)
