Artificial Intelligence — Are we using it in the most efficient way possible?

AI, The term we hear almost everyday now. Artificial Intelligence has impacted our lives so deep that we don’t even notice the use of AI in our day-to-day usage of such products. No doubt, AI has lot more to offer in coming future.

Artificial Intelligence is being used in so many ways today to learn about human behaviour and teach the system to act accordingly. However, Education is one sector which is not impacted much with this advancement in technology. If used efficiently, Education sector can be revolutionized for a better cause.

How AI can be used in Education?

Education is a vast domain itself and the only thing common about different version of education is that they follow a certain set of nomenclature. Nomenclature in terms of syllabus, classes, languages, subjects, etc. What essentially need to be done here is getting Artificial Intelligence involved in learning as well.

The fact that all the students in the same class don’t have a same IQ level is enough to provide a context for such requirement. The one-to-all learning was discarded long back but the alternative is still not implemented to its fullest.

Power of AI based learning?

AI is the most effective tool to teach children as per their current knowledge, capability, pace, and need and can improve accordingly. There are already many use cases of AI in education which are under consideration but the only thing stopping such revolution is the system. People in education industry are more of old school type who want things to be going as they’re right now and don’t want to do a hard job themselves.

However, there are few apps that I know are using AI in education and I really feel that you’ll should know about them too.

1. Nuance

Burlington, Massachusetts

Nuance makes speech recognition software that is used by students and faculty. The technology can transcribe up to 160 words per minute and is especially helpful for students who struggle with writing or have limited mobility. The software also enhances spelling ability and word recognition. Instructors can use the software to dictate lectures for later use or catalyze tedious tasks like document and email creation.

2. Blackboard Radio

Bengaluru, India

Blackboard Radio is an AI based Spoken English Learning App which not only provides user a platform to learn english language by speaking but also provides an opportunity of learn together through a community of like-minded learners and learn better. Blackboard Radio is a practice-first English Speaking App for children for classes 1–10. The app engages children by giving them daily speaking practice with help of teachers and cutting edge technology.

Research proves that focused exposure to English in early childhood results in better language acquisition. Furthermore, students have better recall and hence higher gain in vocabulary when they listen, contextualize and speak a word. And therefore, all the activities on the app are speech and diction focused, with ML in the back end to create a highly-personalized and adaptive engine for the user.

3. Knewton

New York, New York

Knewton creates adaptive learning technology for higher education. Its program, called alta, helps identify gaps in a student’s knowledge, provides relevant coursework and places students back on track for college-level courses.

Alta also helps instructors teach at different educational levels and is currently used for math, chemistry, statistics and economics.

What does the future look like?

AI has already captured attention and is going to capture the ed-tech market soon with it’s amazing features which the change the aspect of learning to a much wider audience. Therefore, I hope the education system can be automated and customized in the coming future upto such an extent that it’ll change the way of learning.

If you find this interesting, kindly share with relatable audience and follow for more such content :)
