Is ‘wfh’ really working for students?

COVID-19 has impacted our lives upto such an extent that we’ve created a New Normal. One of such changes is Virtual Classroom. We are getting so used to it that we’re not considering the drawbacks of the same.

Let’s first consider the plus points of Virtual Classroom to create a context for comparison.

Advantages of Virtual Classroom

  1. Makes the student more confident: Since there’s no fear of crowd in virtual class and you can’t see all the attendees at the same time, the fear of asking questions has reduced to much greater extent.
  2. 1–1 mentoring: If not done, it might give the student a feel of personal mentoring when he’s watching his teacher only and that too live.

Drawbacks of Virtual Classroom

Though, there are plethora of drawbacks I can cite here but the major ones that are of concern to all are as follows;

  1. Lack of activities apart from academics is one the major issue which many parents have realized lately and unfortunately, can’t do anything about it. Although, there are many new services being offered which provides those extra-curricular activities but they also can’t provide that socialisation to the child which is the most triggering factor in child’s behaviour as hi gets older.
  2. Excessive Screen Time is yet another major drawback of Virtual Classrooms. All parents are now busy in their wfh culture and even the classrooms are virtual. So the screen has become an ultimate part of student’s life. The average screen time of a school going children today is around 7–8hrs a day which is for sure not advisable at all.

There could be many possible advantages or disadvantages of the same but the sad part is that even after such a huge cut in operational costs of these organizations, the tuition fee is either kept normal or even increased in some cases. Lockdown has hit many businesses and obviously those people are parents as well. Although, This is my opinion but I firmly believe that government should interfere at some point to control these institutes and organizations as Education has became more of a business these days.

Hope I made this worth reading.
